Assignment begins below. Please take the course of your week to complete. If it takes you longer, that is okay. Be patient with yourself as you thoughtfully think through it all.
Goal
In the absence of motivation, there must be DISCIPLINE.
When we began this journey together 44 weeks ago, we were all MOTIVATED! We saw a program that was going to help us adopt our lifestyle change in a sustainable way and it wasn’t going go cost us our first born and we dived right in! What happens when that excitement wears off?
I’ll tell you what…PUSH FORWARD. You’ve gotten into a routine now. Now is the time to allow the discipline of the routine to take over. This week, the goal is to acknowledge that motivation is sometimes not there but to COMMIT to pushing forward anyway!
Identify
Write this into your journal: “In the absence of motivation, I will allow DISCIPLINE to take over.”
Just under that statement, create a journal entry talking about what you’ve done over the past year that was lead strictly by discipline. We have many examples of this: Showing up to work when you really don’t feel like it is a great example. But what do we do? We may hit snooze a few times, but we eventually get up, get dressed, get coffee, get to the office. It’s not motivation. It’s routine. It’s an underlying nudge of the benefit of the paycheck and benefits, sure…but if we had our choice on this day, we would have stayed home. What else have you fallen into a routine or discipline about? Write about it.
Once you’ve done that, in the next paragraph, write about the struggle you may be facing now with your lifestyle change and point yourself in the direction of routine and discipline. Where can you be disciplined in this area to stay on task?
End your entry with a positive affirmation: I am disciplined and will accomplish my goals.
Affirmation
I am disciplined. I will accomplish my goals.
