Assignment begins below. Please take the course of your week to complete. If it takes you longer, that is okay. Be patient with yourself as you thoughtfully think through it all.
Goal
You may have heard me say the following statement before:
“You can’t be your old self and your new self at the same time.”
I’m usually referring to fitness when I say it…USUALLY…but I have said it in other arenas because let’s be honest, it applies everywhere! Here is an example just for clarity: you cannot be a recovering alcoholic and still hang out in the bars with your friends. In fact, you may need new friends altogether. It’s not to say that you can’t hang out at all, it’s just to say that if you want to be successful in this journey, you have to change everything that you used to do and create new routines.
What are you still holding on to in your lifestyle change journey that you need to let loose?
Are you wanting to be an entrepreneur but you are still holding on to a job that you are miserable in just for the safety net of the direct deposit?
Are you wanting to lose weight but still eating out every day? Or maybe not following the meal plan to the letter?
Do you keep alcohol and wine in your house (you know, in case company comes by) even though you committed to stop drinking?
There is any number of ways to commit and recommit to a process. I’d say that shedding your old self is top tier.
In your journal, identify yourself. Talk about who your new self is in great detail…leave nothing out! Right down to what your new self drives!
Identify
Now that we know who our new self is, it’s time to identify the things that is holding you back. What areas of your old self just keeps popping up. That old self sure is stubborn, right? List out the areas old selfie keeps trying to hold on! It’s like an ex that doesn’t want to leave so he/she keeps showing up at your job, at your moms, and calling your phone. Where is old selfie showing up that you wish he/she would just STOP? Create that list on the next page of your journal.
Once that list is done, commit to cutting old selfie out. Commit that you will do whatever it takes to get old selfie out of your life come hook or crook! Yes, this could mean drastic measures. Your new self is worth it though.
Affirmation
“I CAN’T BE MY NEW SELF AND MY OLD SELF AT THE SAME TIME!”
Let this be your response to anyone who has questions as to why you can no longer go on shopping sprees “like we used to every Friday” or attend Taco Tuesday every Tuesday for Margaritas. Let it be this weeks’ mantra!
