Assignment begins below. Please take the course of your week to complete. If it takes you longer, that is okay. Be patient with yourself as you thoughtfully think through it all.
Goal
COMMITMENT: I know, I know…I ALREADY KNOW! You have commitment issues. But don’t we all?
Would it be easier if the commitment was to SELF? Let me put it to you this way…when you DON’T commit to certain things in your own life to make yourself better, you are actually putting yourself LAST in a long list of priorities…whether it is intentional or not. Need proof? I got proof. You get up everyday for work. You’re even on time (most days) and you carry out your duties until they say you can go home. EVERY. DAY. There is a long line of things you do each day that are just like this too…yet you won’t sign up for personal training because you can’t fit that into work week. Or you won’t make dietary changes because “you aren’t a morning person and don’t like to eat” - YOURSELF LAST.
Let’s change that. Let’s try putting ourselves FIRST for a change. Everybody around us is better when we put ourselves first on the priority list! When you are your healthiest, happiest, and most present self, everyone benefits because you are also your most generous self. You are also most successful because you are operating with a full tank of gas at all times.
Identify
How can you transition from last place to first place? It really is simple. Take one area of life that you’ve really been putting off; perhaps work keeps getting in the way of it? Or even better…MONEY KEEPS GETTING IN THE WAY OF IT. Take if from last place on the paper list and write it in as first place. Just one item. Is it a morning walk? Work is requiring an earlier start time so you can’t get that time in every morning like you want? COMMIT. Figure out just how you’ll get that in. Will you wake up half hour early to get it in? Will you go in at the time they require and then walk the perimeter with your coffee instead of standing at the coffee maker with co-workers chit-chatting? Is it needing to incorporate more meals but work is so busy you only get to eat once per day? Don’t let them people kill you!!! (I hope you read that in my voice) COMMIT. Pack small meals for throughout your day. EAT. If you were diabetic and needed to eat to survive, you’d do it. Don’t wait till you’re diabetic. STOP PUTTING YOURSELF LAST!
Affirmation
I commit to myself. Starting today, I will no longer put myself last. I’m FIRST on the priority list!
Open your meditation app and pick a 10 minute meditation that you can repeat this mantra to yourself with. When your mind wanders, connect with your breath and bring yourself back to yourself.
